INSIGHTS INTO MY WORLD
My Inspiration

For this series of paintings I wanted to explore the idea of what a futurist dystopian/utopian society would look like. When I look at the world around me I see an environment that is constantly growing and adapting to new and advanced technology. I see a world that is infatuated with the factories, mass production and mechanization. As this world continues to grow we become heavily dependent on machines and robots, whether its computers, cellphones, miniature robots designed vacuum homes, machines replacing human works in factories or robotic prosthetics used to assist people. Society is changing and with it laws and how we live our life change as well.
Over the past 10 years I have been inspired by books and movies of utopian civilizations and futuristic Robots such as the Uglies series, the Jewel series, Blade Runner and Ex Machina. I have always enjoyed disappearing into to these foreign yet familiar alternate futures. With these ideas in mind I began to imagine what the future would look like and I see it as a controlled state with a perfect set of systems that would enable people to live long lives and would resemble a utopia from the outside. To enable people to have long lives in this futuristic environment people would be given genetic upgrades, fusing advanced robot technology with humans to create hybrids.
The idea of hybrids is where I began in this series of paintings. I wanted to start by showing how these hybrids are made and from there I was inspired to show distinctive aspects and details of this new society and the hybrids that inhabit it. Through a combination of paintings, drawing and prints I wanted to investigate the idea of individuality, freedom, repression, advanced technology, artificial life and the impact of technology on the human mind.
